Eddie Izzard
She's never heard of The Gong Show.

Oh, someone needs to watch some Game Show Network, I think.

It's a good thing I love her, or I'd have to give her the gong.

That's not a euphamism.

But it could be.

Tell her what she's won, Don Pardo!

She's won a lifetime of having me do a doubletake when I realize that there are so many things that I remember from my childhood that she has absolutely no clue about!

Woohoo!

It's just weird, I tell you ;)

I understand. I have the same issues.

We need a bloody time machine or something to help us out with this one.

Or youtube, perhaps ;)

I remember seeing a really good book on cultural literacy a few years back, but never picked it up, since I already knew all of that shit. Now? I'm thinking that I should track that book down...

This is part of the problem that I have with the 20somethings I work with--I'll make a joke about What's Happening or Leif Garrett or the opening crash on The Six Million Dollar Man, and I'll just get blank, unknowing stares.

Ah, age.

Dude. So she knows nothing about the unknown comic? What the hell? I trust you to teach her well.

I do the best that I can, but sometimes it's an uphill battle ;)

Hey, there's a clip of Oingo Boingo on the Gong show on YouTube - back when they were the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. Heehee. Yeah.

Also, the host of the Gong Show totally reminds me of Joel Hodgson. But maybe that's just me. :P

But was Joel Hodgson a hired assassin for the CIA?

Well, maybe he was, actually.

I can neither confirm nor deny.

It's entirely possible - he pretty much fell off the face of the earth after he left MST3K, it seems. :(

I miss Joel! I miss MST3K for that matter. Ah well. There's always DVDs... and even better, videotaped episodes from Comedy Central, heehee. MITCHELL!

And it has to be the Joel shows for me... Mike just doesnt' cut it once he became captain of the Satellite of Love.

I still love that Crow, though ;)

Crow is made of awesome - but he wasn't the same for me when Trace Beaulieu left the show and someone took over Crow's voice. :(

I didn't like Mike at first either - but he grew on me. Couldn't stand Pearl though.

I stopped watching it before Trace left, so I didn't even know he had left. Weirdness.

Yeah, he left during the Mike years... first TV's Frank left, and was replaced by Dr. Forrester's mother, Pearl. Then Dr. Forrester left, and it was just Pearl, and Kevin Murphy dressed up as a Planet of the Apes' ape, and some weird guys with their brains in pans - I can't even explain it.

But yeah, no Dr. Forrester = no good. :(
